On the left St. Helena holds an unusually t-shaped version of the Cross. As mother of the Emperor Constantine, she wears a crown.
On the right St. Mary of Egypt wears the cloak given to her by St. Zosimus and holds the three loaves that she took with her into the desert. Memling does not follow the example of medieval images in the west that typically gave the saint enough long hair to cover her breasts.
